Look at me. Don’t touch. Chase me. That’s enough. Good-bye. Like the biggest tease you’ve ever met, a Lamborghini has stunning lines that irresistibly attract your attention, yet it’s expressly designed to run away from just about anyone and anything in a heartbeat.
And so it remains with the 2009 Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4, only more so. Cruise slowly, troll the cityscape, be seen, sneer at the gawkers and pretend you don’t love it. This is a car that displays a raging V10 engine under a hatch that’s inset with glass, and yet it can get away from the rabble at a top speed of 202 mph.

Pulled out of its secret workshop and displayed on the grounds of the Ferrari factory just for us, the 2009 Ferrari California stops us all in our tracks. We all just stand there. Mouths open. Like high-schoolers in the presence of bare breasts for the first time.
This is a gorgeous car. With Pininfarina bodywork created under the direction of Donato Coco, Ferrari’s new design chief, the California is a real stunner, particularly with the roof up. Roof down it loses a trifle of that extraordinary well-balanced beauty, but only a trifle. Unlike other cars with a retractable hardtop, the proportions remain intact when the passengers expose themselves to the sun.
For instance, the fender vents are a welcome homage to the car from which the California takes its inspiration, the powerfully evocative Ferrari 250GT SWB Spyder California introduced at the 1960 Geneva auto show. And the long, hollow grooves in the sills have a function, as they direct air to ducts that cool the rear transaxle.
No question about it, the newest Ferrari is a looker. Full-figured, but a looker still the same.

The 2009 Dodge Challenger R/T wants to come home almost as badly as we do.
We’re cranking along I-80 West on our way from suburban New York to Detroit — to Woodward Avenue, in fact. We’re hauling up on the dudes in Hyundais and swerving around RSXs. These people are looking at us like we’ve got lobsters crawling out of our eye sockets. This isn’t the Challenger’s bag, man.
This modern-day muscle/pony car might be constructed in a plant near Toronto, but it will always be “from Detroit.” And no location in Detroit will ever be quite as friendly to the Challenger as Woodward Avenue — particularly during the traditional Dream Cruise in mid-August. This unwieldy, non-organized, traffic-snarled, oldies-blaring orgy of angry exhaust and gasoline stench is the Challenger’s turf. Here, fart-can-exhaust Civic owners meet flat-black retro-rod rockabilly dudes, who meet hyperaggressive Camaro-driving burnouts, who meet fat old men with their poodle-skirt-wearing wives, who meet non-automotive-related standard-issue freak shows in aluminum foil hats and carrying half-full trash bags. It’s a mess.
But everyone seems to dig the 2009 Dodge Challenger R/T.

ENGLISHTOWN, New Jersey — Following the official introduction of the 2009 Dodge Challenger SRT8 at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in Englishtown, New Jersey, we conducted our own independent testing of the 425-horsepower coupe, now available with a six-speed manual transmission for the new model year.
This is the very first chance to test the performance of Chrysler’s new muscle car with the combination of the SRT 6.1-liter Hemi V8 and the Tremec six-speed manual transmission. The data includes 0-60-mph acceleration, quarter-mile performance, braking distance and slalom speed, as well as insight from IL’s test driver.
Chrysler based its introduction of the 2009 Dodge Challenger SRT8, RT and SE at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park, a traditional stop for the NHRA’s professional drag-racing championship. Thanks to our portable Racelogic VBOX III testing gear, we were able to use the track for performance testing, although the lack of a suitable plot of pavement precluded skid pad evaluation.
The 2009 Dodge Challenger SRT8 with its 425-hp 6.1-liter V8 and six-speed manual transmission accelerated to 60 mph in 5.5 seconds (5.2 seconds with 1 foot of rollout), then reached the quarter-mile in 13.8 seconds at 103.0 mph. This compares to the 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 with its five-speed automatic that achieved 60 mph in 5.1 seconds (4.8 seconds with 1 foot of rollout) and completed the quarter-mile in 13.2 seconds at 107.5 mph.
We’re surprised that the 2008 Challenger SRT8 with its automatic transmission has the edge in speed here, but we were slightly suspicious at the time that it had an unusually healthy engine. In comparison, the engine of this 2009 Dodge Challenger SRT8 with its manual transmission seemed slightly sick during our testing. In the end, we’re still left with some questions about the comparative performance of automatic and manual transmissions in this car.

Prepare yourselves, fellow truckers, for a brand new day. No more will you be surprised by a sideways leap of the ass end of your truck when you encounter midcorner bumps or cross railroad tracks.
No more will your insides turn into a quivering bowl of gelatin as you traverse a lumpy freeway. And no longer will you and your passengers quiver at the sight of a washboard dirt road or a poorly maintained driveway.
Nay, these things will no longer happen, because the 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup has been healed!
Can I get a hallelujah?
